Have you ever wondered, “What has God uniquely created me to do?”

Many believers sense there is more—but feel unsure how to identify or step into their spiritual gifts. The truth is, God has already placed gifts within you. The journey is not about striving to get something new, but about discovering, recognizing, and developing what is already there.

When you understand your spiritual gifts, you begin to live with clarity, confidence, and purpose—and step into a life beyond ordinary.

You Have Been Given Spiritual Gifts

The starting point is this: every believer has been given gifts by God.

1 Peter 4:10 says:

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace…”

Notice it doesn’t say if you have a gift—it says whatever gift you have received.

Your gifts are not by chance. They are intentional. They are part of God’s design for your life and your assignment in His Kingdom.

What Are Spiritual Gifts?

Spiritual gifts are God-given abilities empowered by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of serving others and building His Kingdom.

Some examples found in Scripture (Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4) include:

Teaching
Encouragement
Leadership
Giving
Mercy
Wisdom
Faith
Service

But gifts are not limited to a list—they often show up in the unique way God expresses Himself through you.

Clues to Discovering Your Gifts

  1. What Comes Naturally (But Feels Meaningful)?
A man using his gifts naturally and blessing others

Often, your gifts are things that:

Come naturally to you
Feel life-giving when you do them
Impact others positively

What feels “normal” to you may actually be a gift to others.

  1. What Stirs Your Heart?

God often connects your calling to what moves you deeply.

Ask yourself:

What burdens or passions do I carry?
What do I feel drawn to help with?
Where do I feel a sense of purpose?

Your calling is often found where your heart and God’s heart align.

  1. Where Do Others Affirm You?

Sometimes others see our gifts more clearly than we do.

Pay attention when people say:

“You really helped me”
“You’re good at that”
“You should do more of this”

Affirmation can be confirmation.

  1. What Produces Fruit?

Jesus said in Matthew 7:16, “By their fruit you will recognize them.”

When you are operating in your gifting:

Lives are impacted
People are encouraged
God is glorified

Fruit is a powerful indicator of calling.

Gifts Grow as You Use Them

Many people wait for clarity before they act—but in God’s Kingdom, clarity often comes through action.

Just like we explored in Fanning the Flame, gifts must be used to grow.

Step out even if you feel unsure
Start small and stay consistent
Trust God in the process

Your gift develops through practice, obedience, and faith.

Overcoming Fear and Doubt

One of the biggest obstacles to walking in your calling is fear.

Fear of failure
Fear of rejection
Fear of not being “enough”

But 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

You don’t need to be perfect—you need to be willing.

God does not call the qualified—He qualifies the called.

Stay Rooted in Relationship with God

Your gifts should never become more important than your relationship with God.

Jesus said in John 15:5:

“Apart from Me you can do nothing.”

Your effectiveness flows from connection.

Spend time in prayer
Stay in the Word
Listen to the Holy Spirit

Gifts without relationship lead to burnout.
Gifts with relationship lead to impact.

You Are Called to Make a Difference

Your life has purpose.

Your gifts have value.

And your obedience matters more than you realize.

When you begin to identify and use your spiritual gifts:

You grow in confidence
Others are blessed
God is glorified

You step into the life you were created for.

Take the Next Step

Don’t wait for perfect clarity.

Start where you are.

Ask God to reveal your gifts.
Pay attention to what He is already doing in your life.
And take one step of faith.

Because a life beyond ordinary is not found in hesitation—it is found in walking boldly in your God-given calling.
